Story: Thomas Warne lived in Brown Bear Lane in Sydney’s infamous The Rocks district. The only thing known about Thomas Warne is his demise at the hands of his French servant, who smashed his head in with an axe in 1844. After trying to dispose of the body by burning it, the servant then chopped the body up and crammed it in a suitcase. After paying a boatman to throw the suitcase in the harbor, the boatman reported the suspicious incident to police. The French servant was subsequently hanged. Thomas Warne’s charred and hacked body was then placed on display at a local hospital for Sydney-siders to view.
